Happy Sunday folks!
Nothing too exciting to report here, so this will probably end up being one of those rambling blog posts.
Lately, I’ve been reading John Kasich’s book Two Paths: America Divided or United. I’m about 60% through and loving it. He’s such a logical, humble, genuinely nice person. I can’t help but think how different things would be if he had gone further in the presidential race. His track record of reaching across the aisle to get things done is something we desperately need right now in Washington.
On Sundays, I've been whipping up a batch of energy balls every week to have at work when the afternoon munchies hit. I just use the basic recipe of peanut butter, oats, honey, and protein powder - but tonight I’m hoping to up my game with some of these recipes from Sweet Peas and Saffron. I can’t wait to try the Cranberry, Lime & Coconut ones.
Has anyone ever visited Portland, Maine? Last week we were having our car worked on, and one of the technicians gave us a lift to work. During the ride he was telling us about a trip he’d taken to Maine recently. His favorite part was sitting on the bay in Portland, eating lobster, and watching the fisherman pull in said lobsters from said bay. Umm, yes please. I’ve been craving a long weekend getaway (and a lobster roll) and I think this might be a great choice.
In other food news, on Friday I crossed another item off my food bucket list. The Sushi Burrito from Uma Temakeria. It’s basically a sushi hand roll in the shape of a burrito, and it was everything I imagined it would be. The best part was, we were feeling lazy after a long work week, so we had it delivered. I love New York City.
What was probably the highlight of my entire week happened yesterday when we were running errands in the city. It felt like the devil’s armpit outside (the technical term for 95 degrees and humid) and I needed a water refill, so we popped into Georgetown Cupcake to order two waters. Under normal circumstances, I would have also ordered a cupcake. I mean, just a few hours earlier, I actually TRIPPED while walking down the sidewalk because I was staring longingly at the Dough donut stand, and not looking where I was going. However, I was so hot at this point that a baked good just did not sound appetizing. Anyway, as I was paying for the water, I was informed that I was the lucky winner of the Cupcake of the Day, and was handed two wrapped cupcakes. I was speechless for a few moments, and then stuttered “me? for free? I don’t have to do a dance or anything?” “nope, they’re yours.” So that’s the story of how I consciously did not order a cupcake, and then ended up with two. (update: I ate one of them last night. It was cotton candy, and it was magical).
Okay, so I lied about having nothing exciting to report.
I hope your Sunday is filled with, well, whatever you want Sundays to be filled with. For me, it will be laundry, relaxing, catching up with a few friends, and prepping some food. Hope you have a great week!
